Dhaka to host World Peace conference on Dec 4-5: Momen



 DHAKA, July 12, 2021 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen  said today  the government has planned December 4 and 5 to hold the 'World Peace Conference" as part of ongoing celebration of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.   

          
“We decided to hold the conference in December the month of victory and we are very much optimistic to make it. He was speaking to reporters at his residence today.
      
The foreign minister said “Bangabandhu Peace Award” would be introduced and will be awarded during the conference.

He also insisted that many countries do confer such awards on the name of their father of the nation  like Gandhi peace award in India and Mandela award in South Africa.    

The minister went farther and  said Dhaka is not planning to invite any head of states or governments to the conference rather it is planning to gather world renowned peace activists, writers, poets, singers and global civil citizens to promote a culture of peace and tolerance.    

He insisted as well a national committee headed by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury already formed to manage it successfully.

He also said that the first meeting for this purpose is schedule today where we discuss about how the peace award will carry out.
 
Earlier, the minister said a special discussion would be taken place on Bangabandhu during the world peace conference as Bangladesh is now a model country for peace following the path shown by its founding father.

Bangladesh, under the leadership of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, is spreading the peace message across the world which is the "culture of peace."
